Vanessa Walilko aka Kali Butterfly creates awesome aluminum chain mail jewelry. I first noticed her name as a teacher at some of the large national U.S. bead shows and then explored her website and Facebook page.

She has also ventured into the worlds of urban armour and fashion design and creative beadwork using chain mail and beadwork jewellery techniques.

KickStarter 2012

Soon after becoming aware of this amazing young lady, I found out about her dream to make a Chainmaille Wedding Dress!  She developed and submitted her detailed proposal to Kickstarter to solicit funding to make this dream come true. She plans to enter this dress in the World of Wearable Art competition in New Zealand next year. Talk about a risk-taker!

In March 2012 she created a blog entry and a video to outline her proposal. The good news: she exceeded her target dollar amount & started her project. I hope to meet Vanessa at Bead & Button this year where we are both teaching classes. And yes, I was excited to contribute to her Kickstarter initiative.
