My Class Dates: Sunday, June 2 to Sunday, June 9, 2019

Location: Milwaukee WI

This coming spring, June 2-9 take a jewelry making class from Marilyn Gardiner at the Bead&Button Show in Milwaukee WI. Her classes are suitable for jewelry artists at all levels including those at the beginner level, and they use Marilyn’s unique jewelry kit designs and her excellent, easy to follow, step-by-step, illustrated instructions. If you like chain mail jewelry then you’ll definitely want to take a class or two.


The Classes and the Kits

All classes offer metal choices that include Argentium Silver, Silver Filled (1/10th sterling silver outer tube with a brass core), Jewelers Bronze, and Copper projects This is a response to current fashion trends for jewelry in a variety of metals.

All classes emphasize careful work habits and professional-looking work. We’ll discuss how to locate related sources & resources, and we’ll think about creative options for future projects that build on the skills you are learning.

Kits include step-by-step instructions that are clearly illustrated with photos.
Kits also include saw-cut, hardened jump rings that we make ourselves and carefully polish.

Jens Pind Neck Chain + Bicycle Chain Pendant (Beginner Plus)

Jens Pind Neck Chain

Come and master this beautiful, classic spiral chain. It’s perfect for adding a pendant. New instructions will help you to learn this weave quickly.

Bicycle Chain Pendant

Steampunk! This long, slender pendant resembles a bicycle chain—and it’s finished with a copper bail plus an antiqued copper Sunflower charm.

Students will learn: the Jens Pind weave and the Bicycle Chain weave. We will also review chain mail basics.
Workshop Length: 6 hours
Skill Level: Beginner Plus
Pre-requisite: Completion of a few chain mail projects.

Bring Supplies: Beading mat, magnifiers, task lamp.

Bring Pliers: 2 pairs, smooth jaw, flat nose pliers (or bent nose or chain nose).

Materials in Kit: Step-by-step, illustrated instructions, copper jump rings, bail, charm, and a coordinating snap clasp.

Makes up to a 20” chain plus a 2.75″ pendant. All rings are saw-cut and polished.

Orc Weave Bracelet (Advanced)

Orcs are creatures from fantasy fiction—but this openwork bracelet is fantastic to behold and wear. I have a solution to the challenge of building and controlling each unit as you link them together.

Students will learn: the Orc weave, and review chain mail basics.
Workshop Length: 3 hours
Skill Level: Advanced
Pre-requisite: Completion of several previous projects of increasing difficulty.

Bring Supplies: Beading mat, magnifiers, task lamp.

Bring Pliers: 2 pairs, smooth jaw, flat nose pliers (or bent nose or chain nose).

Materials in Kit: Step-by-step, illustrated instructions, 2 main sizes of jump rings, and a coordinating clasp

There are sufficient rings to make a 9″ bracelet, and all rings are saw-cut and polished.

In-Class Kit Options/Upgrades:

Druid Rope Bracelet (Intermediate)

If you are looking for an awesome and substantial bracelet—this is it. It is round, dense, and sure to please. This weave combines elements of the Roundmaille and Turkish Roundmaille weaves.

Students will learn: the Druid Rope weave, and review chain mail basics.
Workshop Length: 3 hours
Skill Level: Intermediate
Pre-requisite: Completion of several previous projects.

Bring Supplies: Beading mat, magnifiers, task lamp.

Bring Pliers: 2 pairs, smooth jaw, flat nose pliers (or bent nose or chain nose).

Materials in Kit: Step-by-step, illustrated instructions, Faux Gold & Black jump rings, and a coordinating toggle clasp.

There are sufficient rings to make a 9″ bracelet, and all rings are saw-cut and polished.

Double Spiral, Half Byzantine Bracelet (Beginner Plus)

This graceful and dainty bracelet will delight you! It combines elements of both the Double Spiral weave and the Byzantine weave. Notice that two of the options combine metals in different ways—it’s fun to experiment this way.

Students will learn: the Double Spiral, Half Byzantine weave, and review chain mail basics.
Workshop Length: 3 hours
Skill Level: Beginner plus
Pre-requisite: Completion of a few previous chain mail projects.

Bring Supplies: Beading mat, magnifiers, task lamp.

Back To Work Bracelet (Beginner)

Are you looking for something feminine? Lacy? This is it! Short lengths of an openwork weave are connected to small, hammered links and combined into a most delightful bracelet. 

Students will learn: the Back To Work weave, and chain mail basics.
Workshop Length: 3 hours
Skill Level: Beginner
Pre-requisite: None.

Bring Supplies: Beading mat, magnifiers, task lamp.

Bring Pliers: 2 pairs, smooth jaw, flat nose pliers (or bent nose or chain nose).

Materials in Kit: Step-by-step, illustrated instructions, Copper jump rings, hammered links, and a coordinating toggle clasp.

Byzantine Pendant and Earrings (Beginner)

Make an exquisite, keepsake pendant while learning the classic Byzantine chain mail weave. Add matching earrings with white opal, Swarovski briolettes. Includes antique copper, metal mesh choker.

Students will learn: the Byzantine weave, and chain mail basics.
Workshop Length: 3 hours
Skill Level: Beginner
Pre-requisite: None.

Bring Supplies: Beading mat, magnifiers, task lamp.

Bring Pliers: 2 pairs, smooth jaw, flat nose pliers (or bent nose or chain nose).

Materials in Kit: Step-by-step, illustrated instructions, Copper jump rings; adjustable, metal mesh choker chain; niobium and copper earwires; and white opal Swarovski crystal briolettes. Makes a pendant and 2 earrings.

All rings are saw-cut and polished. Optional metal kits available from the instructor (more information coming soon).
