Jewellery making class in San Antonio

Staggered Byzantine (or Boxchain) Bracelet (Beginner Plus)

This is the most impressive new bracelet I’ve made since Dragonscale. It expands and contracts like an accordion and feels so good on my wrist! I love this unadorned version, but I can also see a version with beads added in the middle openings or even drop beads along the outer edges. Can you spot the Byzantine (or Boxchain) building blocks?

Skill Level: Beginner Plus

Pre-requisite: Completion of a couple of previous chain mail projects.

Bring Supplies: Pliers designed for chain mail will be provided for class use but you may bring your personal tools. Bring magnifiers for close-up work.

The Kit includes step-by-step, illustrated instructions, 1 main size of jump ring, and a coordinating toggle clasp.
Makes up to a 9” bracelet.
All rings are saw-cut and polished.

Kit Fees:
• Staggered Byzantine: $120 for silver filled bracelet kit
• Staggered Byzantine:$52 for Copper bracelet kit

• Staggered Boxchain: $139 for Argentium® sterling silver bracelet kit

Oops Bracelet (Advanced)

This beautiful bracelet drapes like fabric around your wrist. If you know the European 4 in 1 weave (Flat Mesh), you may recognize that this is an unbalanced variation. It is, however, somewhat more challenging! I have 2 versions, one with 18 gauge rings and another with 16 gauge rings—which makes it wider.

Skill Level: Advanced

Pre-requisite: Completion of several previous projects of increasing difficulty.

Bring Supplies: Pliers designed for chain mail will be provided for class use but you may bring your personal tools. Bring eyeglasses or magnifiers for close-up work.

The kit includes step-by-step, illustrated instructions, 1 main size of jump rings, and a coordinating clasp.
Makes up to a 9” bracelet.
All rings are saw-cut and polished.

Kit Fees:
• $119 for Argentium, 18 gauge bracelet kit
• $28.50 for Copper, 18 gauge bracelet kit

• $90 for Silver Filled, 16 gauge bracelet kit
• $46 for Jeweller’s Bronze, 16 gauge bracelet kit

The Classes

All classes offer metal choices that include Sterling Silver, 10% Sterling Filled (sterling silver outer tube with a brass core), Jewelers Bronze (a zinc and copper alloy), fully hardened Copper, and Black Enameled Copper (Parawire) projects. This selection is a response to current fashion trends for jewelry in a variety of metals.

  • All classes emphasize careful work habits and professional-looking work. We’ll discuss how to locate related sources and resources, and we’ll think about creative options for future projects that build on the skills you are learning.
  • Kits include step-by-step instructions that are clearly illustrated with photos.

In chain mail classes I supply pliers (designed for chain mail) for your use. This is an opportunity to try out a variety of pliers. Of course, you may bring and use your own!

Skill Levels

    • Beginner means just that—I assume that you have never made a chain mail project (or that, whatever your experience, you just love the project).
    • Beginner Plus means that you have previously completed two or three chain mail projects.
    • Intermediate means that you have previously completed several chain mail projects.
    • Advanced means that you have previously completed several chain mail projects of increasing difficulty.
