For 3 days in late January and early February, 2017, Marilyn Gardiner will be teaching jewelry making classes, organized by JewelryTools.com, at The JOGS Gem and Jewelry Show in Tucson, Arizona at the Tucson Expo Center.
These classes are suitable for jewellery artists at all levels as well as those at the beginner level, and use Marilyn’s unique jewellery kit designs and her step-by-step illustrated instructions.

The Classes
(SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE PHOTOS!) (Click on any photo to zoom.)

  • All classes offer metal choices that include Argentium Silver, Sterling Silver, Silver Filled (1/10th sterling silver outer tube with a brass core), Jewelers Bronze, Copper, and Black Enameled Copper projects. This is a response to current fashion trends for jewelry in a variety of metals.
  • All classes emphasize careful work habits and professional-looking work. We’ll discuss how to locate related sources & resources, and we’ll think about creative options for future projects that build on the skills you are learning.
  • Kits include step-by-step instructions that are clearly illustrated with photos.
  • Kits also include saw-cut, hardened jump rings that we make ourselves and carefully polish.

Skill Levels:

  • Beginner means just that—I assume that you have never made a chainmail project.
  • Beginner Plus means that you have previously completed one or two chainmail projects.
  • Intermediate means that you have previously completed a few chainmail projects.
  • Advanced means that you have previously completed several chainmail projects of increasing difficulty.

What to Bring:

Each class has its own specific supply kit that you’ll pick up at the class, so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own materials. I will also have pliers for you to use during the class. You are welcome to bring your favorite set of pliers or any other tools you can’t make jewelry without. In addition, the JewelryTools.com booth will have tools for you to purchase.

Please bring magnifiers, Opti-visors, battery operated craft lights, or other supplemental tools. Also, consider bringing a snack, a bottle of water–and a light jacket.

Staggered Boxchain Bracelet  (Beginner Plus)

This is another striking new bracelet that I’m smitten with. Like the Staggered Byzantine, it expands and contracts like an accordion and is an unusual design. I love the unadorned version, but I can also see a version with beads added along the outer points. Can you spot the Boxchain building blocks?

Pre-requisite: Completion of a couple of previous projects.

Tools designed for chain mail will be provided for class use but you may bring your personal tools.
Bring: magnifiers for close-up work.

The kit includes Step-by-step, illustrated instructions, 1 main size of jump ring, and a coordinating toggle clasp.

Makes up to a 9″ bracelet. All rings are saw-cut and polished.

Fees

• $119 USD for workshop + $32 for jewelers bronze kit
• $119 USD for workshop + $79 for Argentium Sterling silver kit

Oops Wide Bracelet  (Advanced)

This beautiful bracelet drapes like fabric around your wrist. If you know the European 4 in 1 weave (Flat Mesh), you may recognize that this is an unbalanced variation. It is, however, somewhat more challenging! There are two metal options in a narrow version (copper and Argentium sterling), and two options in a wider one (Jewellers Bronze and Silver Filled). The extra width is because of the heavier gauge of jump rings—the number of rings stays the same.
