Jewellery making class at Beadfx in Toronto

Spend a Day in my Parallel (Chainmaille) Universe!

This full day class will offer an in-depth look at using the classic Parallel (or Helm) weave. Students will gain more lasting value than a short class to make a piece of jewellery from a kit. My mantra will be Learn, Design, Apply, and Share.

The classic Parallel weave is a valuable one to learn because of the many variations, combinations with other weaves, and the possibilities it offers for future jewellery projects. Make it with either Argentium sterling, Jewellers Bronze or with copper rings.

In class you will have the option to learn and/or practice the weave, and then try a design or kit that incorporates it in a more complicated way, or design something totally new that builds a piece based on the Parallel weave.

In this all-day class:

  1. You’ll use some test rings and instructions to practice the weave and make a small, quick project (earrings).
  2. Then, you’ll either work on one of the various Parallel weave kits, or plan a project that uses this weave.
  3. You can choose the rings you want to use (from Marilyn), and findings (from BeadFX), if you are designing your own project.
  4. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and share your work following the class via my private FaceBook student group.

In addition to a selection of jump rings, I will have a variety of kits in different metals/prices available for those who don’t think they can design. However, I will encourage you to get involved in designing your own jewellery.

**Prior to class, I will email students a link to some basic information about the resources and tools used to make chainmail jewellery (for pre-reading and reference). In addition, I will email you a document with a collection of images and information about designs that use the Parallel (or Helm) weave, this month’s Chain mail weave. The document will also have some options for pre-ordering.

Please sign up early so you can receive the related information and pre-order.
